The Four Spiritual Laws

I had a discussion with one of the staff members of CCC, and he expressed sorrow that I wouldn’t use them while evangelizing. I will explain what I see wrong in the Four Spiritual Laws (please note that I am not ostricizing those that decide to use them; I’m only expressing why I do not). First, the laws…

  1. God LOVES you, and offers a wonderful PLAN for your life.
  2. Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God’s love and plan for his life.
  3. Jesus Christ is God’s ONLY provision for Man’s sin. Through Him you can know and experience God’s love and plan for your life.
  4. We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God’s love and plan for our lives.

“God’s love and plan for your life?”

Tell me…what is this suppose to mean? None of the laws specifically address exactly what this is referring to (another cause of ambiguity of these ‘laws’). What is God’s plan for all of our lives?

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
Psalms 96:3

But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.“
Acts 9:15–16

There is no emphasis on God’s glory throughout any of the “laws.” Nothing on His mercy, grace, or wrath; but instead they only further the evangelical emphasis on solely love and no wrath. Maybe Bill Bright should read “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” by Edwards.

The Law / Resurrection?

The most important thing we can possibly mention is Christ’s resurrection; without it, we have no Gospel. Also, the “laws” don’t explain what being sinful really envelopes. No mention of God’s law anywhere.

In short, whatever does spread the Gospel is fantastic; but we must look critically at how we are presenting the Gospel. So then, what is the Gospel?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you–unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:1–4

God gave man His Law to follow, but we have come short. Out of His mercy and love He sent his Son Jesus Christ; Jesus was born of a virgin birth, lived a sinless life, and was crucified in order so that we may have a relationship with God again. God poured out his wrath on Jesus, so that we would escape that torment. After his crucifixion, He rose three days later to prove He had conquered death.

If you believe Jesus Christ did these things: then you will escape God’s wrath, and you will enjoy an eternal relationship with The Creator of the universe.
