I can relate with your experience, but from a different perspective. Personally, I came from a Word of Faith background and entered Regent University in order to pursue an MDiv with such underpinnings. However, during my time there I became convinced of the Reformed Perspective while still adhering to the continuation of the Gifts of the Spirit. At the moment I'm finishing my MDiv via Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. I've just recently started blogging about some of these issues. Check it out sometime at http://pre-em-i-nence.com

I enjoyed reading your brief thoughts. I am too a recently convinced "calvinist" and have many issues with the Hyper-Charismatic/Word of Faith doctrine and beliefs, most of them are extra-biblical. If wasn't for the Holy Spirit, I would still be in error (wouldn't we all, hee hee). Anyway, it's wonderful to know that I don't have to completely "shuck" my charismatic beliefs but using the Word verify them and back them up. Of course, we must praise, worship, honor, adore and glorify the Giver and not the gift!

By His grace and for His glory alone,

Hi, don't know you but I got to Apex and came across your blog. I felt I must comment because I seriously enjoyed reading this post. I am a former charasmatic (that's hard for me to say) and I struggle with many ideas, thoughts, beliefs, whatever you want to call them, from the past. I also struggle to find a balance of both Bible and Spirit, if that makes sense. I worry about going too far in my beliefs but at the same time I worry about not going far enough. I will read the rest of your resources that you mentioned and am even going to post a quote from your blog onto mine. It has really made me think and face my struggle between being charasmatic and not charasmatic enough...

Chris,

Thanks for the excellent thoughts. I would encourage anyone thinking through the issue to check out Sam Storm's web page. He calls himself a Charismatic Calvinist, and has many helpful resources available.
