My Friend Hurts
Well, I go to write my next post for Tag Team Theology, and it seems that it (and Thinking Deeply) has been taken down. It is quite obvious that Simon has also been hurt from the dialog he has had with Reformed Christians recently. His frustration has led him to proclaim the following:
“[Comments from some Calvinists] are examples of the kind of stupidity from professed Christians that make atheists comfortable with their atheism.”
I must say that of my short time of being a believer Simon has been of most encouragement to me as Mark was to Paul (2 Tim 4:11). I remember being in Pasadena, and he drove over an hour through traffic to come and visit me. He has taken an interest in my life, as I have his, and I am proud to say there are few believers that I have such a high degree of respect for both personally and intellectually. Let us encourage Simon during this time.
No matter how much we might disagree on doctrine, there is a doctrine that all of us can’t deny. God is saving people to bring glory to Himself through His Righteous Son and Spirit to bring Him worship. I hope that we as believers can have our hearts set on Rev 7:9–10. When we keep our mind set on this task set before us then hopefully we can all keep our calling into perspective.
After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.“
Revelation 7:9–10
Whether each us were saved through Calvinistic or Arminian soteriological means, the fact remains that each of us are saved by the Lamb regardless of our lack of wisdom (1 Cor 1:18–31). Worthy is He to be praised!
This whole situation is a pure shame.
I’m not even sure what exactly happened.
