Subscribe To This Blog
If you're like me, you have more than 20 blogs that you like to visit; or maybe you only have 2-3. The point being it is a lot to continually remember to visit those blogs individually to get updates. Surely in 2006 this process can be automated right? You're in luck, and I'm going to show you can get updates from this blog without ever having to visit (if you so choose).
It should be noted that I do not include my Asides in any of my syndication. I don't want to overwhelm my readers with those little updates.
Subscribe Via E-mail
On my front page is a little form (see image) that you can insert your e-mail and be notified by e-mail when I add a post. You can always unsubscribe, and I give my personal guarantee that your e-mail won't be resold or abused in any way. If you can't live without your e-mail this is one way to go!
Subscribe Via RSS
A really neat technology is RSS (Really Simple Syndication). What this technology does is put all your blogs in one spot and you can go to one place to view all the blogs your subscribed to. This is the way I read blogs, and you can view my blogroll.
All you have to do is go and get a free RSS reader, and subscribe to the blogs you frequent. I suggest Bloglines, but there are other good ones including Google Reader, Netvibes, and browser based feed readers. I've already posted instructions on how to subscribe with Bloglines a while back that you can reference. I also import my RSS feed into Facebook so if you have an account than you can read it through there, and the same is true for Xanga.
Here is a link to my RSS feed.
E-mail Post
Let's say there is a post that you think a friend would enjoy. You can easily send them a link with some comments. Just click "E-mail Post" under the "Post Information" link. There you can input the information to send to a friend with your comments.
If You Prefer To Listen
If reading is just to laborious for you (and I know some of my posts are like that), you can simply listen to my posts with my podcast. This will give you the text and a link for a dynamically generated mp3 with a nice woman's voice that reads the post to you. You can still put it into your RSS reader to be updated.
