I’m excited to announce the release of a new forum for this site. I have done this for a few rea­sons: (1) I really enjoy when other people dis­cuss things in the com­ments with­out me having to chime in, (2) I get tired of writ­ing and want to read the thoughts of others, and (3) I want to increase your desire to keep coming back (to be blunt).

Reg­is­ter­ing and Rules

First, go and reg­is­ter for the new forum. This will give you a username/password for both the forum and the com­ments on the main blog. So you won’t have to sign on twice, and you’ll have a chronol­ogy of all your posts. If you want fill in some of your per­sonal info so others can see your web­site, name, etc. Be sure to pick a dis­play name prefer­ably other than your login name.

I have writ­ten some basic rules to help keep the forum in check. They are not set in stone but are always up for alter­ation as I learn more about mod­er­a­tion. I will also be adding a couple of admin­is­tra­tors to relieve me of the need to mod­er­ate all the time. Remem­ber I envi­sion my site not being about me but Christ and having others have inter­ac­tive, edi­fy­ing dia­logue on a wide range of issues.

You’ll also see a blue bar at the top of the site when logged in that will help you get to your pro­file and the forum in a snap.

Post­ing and Tags

When you post you can choose the cat­e­gory that you want it to go in. When you post, if it’s a new thread, a title then you’ll write your text; but you’re not done yet! You then put in a few “tags” which help others to iden­tify your topic. If two people write a topic on Calvin­ism then that tag will show up as a link on the front page and be related. Think of it like label­ing your posts for others to under­stand the premise. You can also add tags to other posts.

I’ve added fea­tures includ­ing pres­ence detec­tion so you can see when others are online, quick tags to add for­mat­ting to your post (in HTML format), you can quote other posts (in lieu of the “@”), and you can choose to receive an e-mail when you get a reply on a post you’re watch­ing. It’s con­fus­ing at first but play around and you’ll get it. Feel free to ask ques­tions at any time.
